Date: November 2021
Location: Miami, FL
Event: Art Basel Louis Vuitton x Virgil Abloh
Hmm where do I start with this one...I was visiting Miami for the first time since the pandemic, trying to escape Toronto for a bit and ended up having a very wild
time. Wild because the rental whip got stolen on day 3 (got it back thank you Ri) , a family dog had just passed away (R.I.P Kahlua) and not to mention business tensions were high back home smh but it's all good cause I'm in warm weather right? Then I get the news...gone at 41..beloved human and artist Virgil is gone. At this point, I'm like noooooo way and yet somewhat numb to legends leaving so early on this planet. But that's when my whole perspective shifted that day I was in Miami's Design District. As I walked up to these giant, monumental, colourful statues and overall incredible spatial design, you could completely feel the energy and walk in the vision of Virgil. He's no longer physically here but looking around it felt like he is still present. That's the thing about legends...their energy transcends time and physical space because their ideas, their message, their principles, their creations are all alive and being experienced by us through so many different mediums. Something so peaceful about the whole experience that day and also an immense sadness because truly no one was doing it to the scale of Virgil's vision, something I aspire to and keeps me motivated on any given day. I'll leave you with a link to one of my favourite podcasts: OTHERtone by Pharrell Williams featuring Virgil and KAWS sharing the codes we can use in our own ways.
Peace
